Small Group Studies

Several small groups meet both in homes and at the church for short and long term sessions.  These groups include Bible Studies as well as an opportunity to explore other areas of interest.

20 & 30 Somethings

20 & 30 Somethings meet once a month for a fun event, which always includes food and babysitting.  Find Stout Memorial UMC on Facebook to keep track of our events.

 HOUSE GROUPS

We currently have two house groups.

David & Donna Waters

Studying God’s Word with other believers will strengthen your faith, as you become the person God created you to be.  Additionally, the small group experience offers an opportunity to form new relationships and participate in missions.  Prayerfully consider being a part of this small group experience that meets the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings at 5:30 p.m.

Tom & Susan Woods

A traditional small group that meets in the home of Tom and Susan Woods.  A multidenominational group (United Methodists, Roman Catholics, and Baptists.)  Generally meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m.  Studies are Bible based and also have included books written by Max Lucado, James Moore, and Bill Hybels.

UNDERSTANDING OTHER DENOMINATIONS

Rev. Chrissy Ruehl & Rev. Ian Reid

Join us for this weekly panel discussion on various topics such as baptism, commuion, theology, etc.  Panel participants will include a Catholic priest and ministers from the Baptist, Episcopal, Lutheran, United Methodist and Presbyterian denominations.  We’ll meet on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, beginning January 12 and meet for 6 weeks.  Our first meeting will be in the downstairs Fellowship Hall.

WOMEN’S CLUSTER

Dottie Bibbee

Our group meets the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month for a creative social outing that will further the bonds of sisterhood as well as encourage spiritual growth.  These outings will include basket-making and wreath making as well as other possibilities such as visiting health food stores.  Come grow spiritually as well as creatively as you get in touch with the creative woman inside!  Meeting times are at 6:00 p.m. in the Upper Room class room.  We will then begin a book study in February together.

PRISCILLAS

The Priscillas are a small group of women of all ages who want to build a strong Christian friendship with one another and serve in the community in mission together.  Meetings are currently held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 1:00 pm in the church parlor where we share a devotion and make plans for going out and doing for others.  Our current focus is the Colonial House senior living facility in Parkersburg.

MARRIAGE SMALL GROUP

Greg & Stacy Hoover

“When Marriage Meets Grace:  Love that Lasts”, is an 8 week book study for married and engaged couples.  We hope that a study like this will make us intentional about keeping our marriages a priority in the scheme of our busy lives.  The only fee for this study is for the book itself.

Our meeting date & time will be determined by the needs of our participants.

PHOTOGRAPHY SMALL GROUP

Paul Bibbee

Creativity has much to do with spirituality.  Join our group as we venture into the world of photography and how it directly relates to our understanding of scripture and hymns.  Anyone interested in photography is invited to join us to photograph the world and align it with the Bible.  No photography experience is needed, just a camera.  We’ll also have the opportunity to display our art.  We meet the 1st & 3rd Mondays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the UpperRoom Sunday school classroom.

BIBLE STUDY

Scott Sears

Join us Wednesday evenings at 6:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for “Feasting on the Word,” a lectionary based Bible study.  Materials are available in class.  If you have any questions contact Pastor Scott by phone (304)428-1179 or email sears.scott@gmail.com.  Child care will be available if needed.

 BOOK STUDY

John & Margie Esenwine

Pack your bags; we’re going on a journey to Israel and the Middle East.  Using a study book and DVD format – “Death and Resurrection of the Messiah,” Vol. 4, by Ray Vander Laan, we will explore the history, culture and geography of Jesus’ death and resurrection and the Holy Spirit’s visit on Pentecost.  We’ll meet on Mondays in the Parlor at 9:00 a.m., beginning January 23rd for 8-10 weeks.

Contact Pastor Chrissy Ruehl at chrissyruehl@gmail.com for more information on any of these groups.
