Journey to the Cross - Station OneIn the beginning, God created, and said, "It is good!"
Take some time to reflect on what it might have been like to have been there at the creation. Walking with God by our side. Talking with him in person. When everything was still "Good." |
|
Journey to the Cross - Station TwoWatch this video before beginning station 2.
You will need your stone for this station. |
|
Romans 6:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
The world is broken. How do you see brokenness in the world? How do you see brokenness in your life? How do you see brokenness in your heart? |
|
Journey to the Cross - Station ThreeIf you are able to bow during this station please do so. If you not able to do so feel free to sit or stand as we reflect on this scripture.
Luke 22:39-44; Matthew 26:45-46
Jesus was completely aware of everything that was in store for him.
Can you sense his anguish? Do you feel his struggle? Yet he says not my will, but yours be done, Father. |

Jesus' sacrifice wasn't a spur of the moment decision, from the time of Adam and Eve's betrayal God had a plan to redeem his people. Jesus made his journey to the cross knowing he would be the the ultimate sacrifice.
Is there an area in your life where you need to make a choice to love and to sacrifice? Even if it comes with a cost?
Is there an area in your life where you need to make a choice to love and to sacrifice? Even if it comes with a cost?
Journey to the Cross - Station FourMatthew 26:14-16; 47-50
It only took 30 pieces of silver for Judas to betray Jesus.
Pick the coins you have with you, pick them up one by one, counting them. How much is your integrity worth? Why do we seem so quick to compromise our values for money?
|
|
Journey to the Cross - Station FiveLuke 23:13-25
What was it like listening to the crowd? Were you annoyed? Could you sympathize with Pilate wanting to just give in? In what ways do we give in and take the easy and lazy road even if it means being a part of injustice committed against others?
Think of the areas in your life where you act like Pilate, participated in injustice because it was easier than doing what was right.

|
Journey to the Cross - Station SixMatthew 26:69-75
Sometimes our betrayal is motivated not by money, but by our need for acceptance. To be accepted by those around us, to be accepted by society.
Write down the phrase on you paper, "I Don't know the man!" Look at it and think of the times you like Peter have denied Christ with your words, with your action, or maybe with no action at all. |
|
Journey to the Cross - Station SevenMatthew 27:26-31a
Look at the whip and reflect on these words.
Some deaths are quick. Some deaths are noble. But this death was neither. It's one thing to kill a man, it's another to to shame and humiliate him. Think for a second, the king of heaven has spit on his face. O, the divine disgrace, our savior endured.

Journey to the Cross - Station Eight Luke 23:31-34
Jesus talked a lot about loving enemies and forgiving others. But here at the cross he goes beyond words and ideals and teaches us with an example. With the nails digging into his flesh and the hammer hovering, he offers forgiveness.
So, in your life, who are the soldiers in your life with the nails and the hammers that you need to extend forgiveness to? |
|
Journey to the Cross - Station NineLuke 23:44-49; John 29:18-30
Spend some time imagining that you are standing in front of the cross with the disciples. Can you feel the presence of death? Can you feel the heaviness of despair? Can you feel the sorrow, emptiness and confusion? Can you feel the darkness?
|
|
Journey to the Cross - Station TenJohn 19:38-41
Try to imagine the emotions of the disciples as Jesus' body was laid in that tomb. How do they reconcile that their messiah is gone?
John 16:7
The death of Jesus shattered every belief his followers had about who God was and should be. Think of the beliefs that you have had about God that the cross forces you to confront.

Journey to the Cross - Station ElevenBefore you begin Station Eleven, Watch the video, "Go and Sin No More."
|
|
Take the rock you have been holding and lay it down. Let the rock symbolize every sin, every sinful attitude and sinful action. Let the rock in your hand symbolize all that you wished, that you weren't. Let the rock in you hand symbolize the shadows that are within us. Let the rock in your hand symbolize the brokenness that you have experienced. Let the rock in your hand symbolize the brokenness that you caused. Drop the rock, and let your sin die with Christ.

Journey to the Cross - Station TwelveAfter Jesus was crucified, after Joseph and Nicodemus prepared his body for burial, after the tomb was sealed, the story would not yet be finished for three days. After those three days, Jesus performed one final miracle on earth. He rose from the grave. After descending to depths of the earth, taking the keys to death and hell he rose again to bring us the final victory.
